St. Thérèse of Lisieux Patroness of Mission and Lover of Nature

Image
Every year, our Mother Church invite us her Children in the Month of October to actively participate and share in Her mission. This starts on First October with the Celebration of the feast day of the Patroness of Mission (St. Therese of Lisieux) described by    United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization  as a nature lover and development activist taken up be Pope Francis in his Laudato Si 230. T he Saint, popularly known as the 'Little Flower' tells us of her Love for nature in her Autobiography: The Story of the Soul. The Little flower is a soul with the blazing love for God and Nature. How she saw God in nature is a wonderful experience; how she could feel the wind singing the Heavenly Hymn for her is even more captivating, what more would a soul desire other than listening here on earth the Hymn one would enjoy in Heaven. More wonderfully, Therese considered she had the Vocation to be a priest before discernment made her settle fo...

THE ONLY CONDITION FOR PEACE IN TODAY'S INSECURE SOCIETY

Image
Peace is the state that every living being yearns for, it seems that every activity of a living being is geared towards attainment of peace. This we can affirm in our experience - for we long for, we work for and we directs our mind, energy and resources to what we see would fetch for us peace. Even those who we think direct their thoughts, speeches and actions towards those things whose evil consequences and detrimental impact on peace can be foreseen do so with the blind hope that those things would obtain peace for them and maybe the society they live in.  Recently, our Country have witnessed what many have termed, "cold-blood" murder of our fellow Nationals and an expatriate, this together with economic challenges especially that of inflated prices of goods and services, corruption even by the top Government officials, natural and environmental hazards like River Katonga flooding, Cattle rustling in Lango and Teso, among others can make many of us who were calling our cou...

WHERE HAS THE BEAUTY GONE? PART III: RESTORATION I

In this technological age, there are many works of man which are being highly elevated to the extent that their makers are called creators. But in its proper sense, 'creation' is only applicable to God as it stipulates the way in which everything has its origin, meaning and destiny in God. Now since man can only but produce something from something else, man is only a procreator and a maker but not a creator per se. During my short study tour in Netherlands in June and July of 2022, I used to make lots of fun with the  Dutch people. Most Dutch men and women are very welcoming to visitors; they guide their visitors through most beautiful and historical sites within their vicinity, explain in detail every information about the site visited; if they cannot do this themselves, a city guide's service is sorted.  After visiting all the sites, it would be a surprise if a typical Dutch do not tell his or her visitors; "God created the world, but the Dutch created the Netherlan...

QUOTE OF THE DAY

The way for the Church to reach modern man is not to refigure herself and all her resources to a shadowy and shifting modernity, but rather to work zealously at reshaping man by ageless teaching of Christ and the time-honored, time seasoned means given to her by Divine Providence. WHERE HAS THE BEAUTY GONE? PART II

Friends, in the last article, we made a review on the question; "Where has the beauty gone?" Specifically looking at the trends in the Church, one may wonder whether, today's Church is one and the same as that which gave us the light, faith and life 30 years ago when we were yet infants. Pondering on this makes me restless,  as such, I started taking a serious research on the same, hoping that the beauty of the Church that brought me up comes back to the fullest. My first area of recourse is the person who inspired me as a 5 year old to the calling I am pursuing now. Born to a Catechist and a very devoted Mother, I had several opportunities of interacting with Priests from my childhood up-to-date. One of these (Priests) sowed the seed of Priestly vocation in my heart, many of those who would later succeed him watered and is still watering it. Among those who watered and weeded this seed are Rev. Fr. Caesar Okello (R.IP). As a young boy, one of the characters which I was n...

WHERE HAS THE BEAUTY GONE? PART I

It was always funny, everything taken just as it was said it is or is like. We couldn't think about what was said or even question; how would you question what is a very clear, interesting and factual truth. An instructor would come raise a question, teach its answer and we would all respond in loud choruses. A  sample of it  is like; 1.        Instructor: Who Created us? Learners: God Created us. 2.        Instructor: Who is God? Learners: God is a Pure Spirit, He is the Creator of heaven, earth, and everything in it. 3.        Instructor : Where is God? Learners: God is in heaven, on earth and everywhere, we do not see Him because He is Pure Spirit. That was how we were  introduced  to the immense wisdom and the foundation of faith and life in the catechism classes. If you ask me about my experience during the Catechumenate, I would boldly respond, "the experience wa...
