A Shepherd of Hope, a True Witness of the Merciful Love of God

 Friends,

In the journey of life, there are individuals whose stories resonate deeply with the themes of faith, perseverance, and divine love. One such individual is Isaac Opio, a seminarian whose life exemplifies the essence of hope and the merciful love of God. Born on May 9, 1991, at Pope John XIII Hospital in Aber, Isaac's path has been marked by both challenges and blessings that have shaped him into a beacon of hope for many.

Isaac began his education in 1998 at Okutuagwe Primary School, where he laid the foundation for his academic journey. Completing primary school in 2004, he moved on to secondary education at Akokoro Secondary School. His determination saw him finish his O-level at Chegere Secondary School in 2008. Continuing his pursuit of knowledge, Isaac earned the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education from Atapara Secondary School between 2009 and 2010. His academic excellence led him to Makerere University Business School, where he studied Human Resources Management from 2011 to 2014 under government sponsorship.

However, Isaac's journey was not without trials. He faced significant challenges, including financial difficulties related to school fees, weather changes and accidents that tested his resilience—one occurring just five weeks before his upcoming Diaconate ordination. Despite these obstacles, Isaac remained steadfast in his faith and commitment to serve God.

His professional experience includes working at the Insurance Company of East Africa and Enterprise Uganda between 2014 and 2016. In August 2016, he joined Katigondo National Seminary to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy. This was followed by pastoral work at Alanyi and Bala Parishes between 2019 and 2021. Each step along this path was not merely an educational pursuit but a preparation for a higher calling.

In November 2021, Isaac took another significant leap by joining GGABA National Seminary for Theological Studies. Here he obtained both a Bachelor's in Theology and a Master's degree in Theological and Pastoral Studies from Makerere University. These academic achievements reflect not only his dedication but also God's provision throughout his life—a testament to the verse from Philippians 4:19: “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”

Isaac will be ordained as a Deacon on September 4, 2025, at Lira Cathedral Ordination grounds by Sanctus Lino Wanok, Bishop of Lira Diocese. This milestone is not just a personal achievement but also an invitation for others to witness God's merciful love through him.

His motto—“We have found the MESSIAH (John 1:41) and I am a Testimony of His Merciful Love”—encapsulates his mission as a shepherd for those seeking hope in their lives. Through sharing God's word and serving others with compassion and kindness, Isaac embodies what it means to be a true witness of divine love.

Isaac’s life is filled with examples of how he has become a shepherd of hope for those around him. He has been tested several times but also blessed with many favours including the diine calling to shepherd God's people within and outside Uganda, generous friends who have supported him throughout his studies and ministry endeavors. These serves as evidence that even amidst life's trials God's providence manifests through community support.

In conclusion, Isaac Opio stands as an inspiring figure whose journey reflects unwavering faith amid adversity. As he prepares for ordination as a Deacon, many look forward to witnessing how he will continue spreading hope and embodying God's merciful love within the community and beyond. He is indeed a shepherd who guides others towards light amidst darkness—a true testament that with faith and perseverance, one can navigate life's storms while remaining anchored in divine love.

Let's Pray that divine protection, guidance, and love rest upon His Servant Isaac for the Glory of God and the good of His People.

WACHA VINCENT (Isaac's comrade).
